Wandering Womb

occurrences

Wandering Womb actions have been occurring in many places over the past three years. Some of the more glorious having taken place in New Orleans around Mardi Gras culminating with this year's Lundi Gras celebration.

The Womb first emerged in 1995. Following a highly energized Crash Worship parade that was squashed by police, Wombers gathered the giant jubilant but slowly dispersing crowd and enticed them down to the banks of the Mississippi into a till-dawn rhythm celebration. Using what plastic garbage cans and sticks could be found, we drummed and were joined by every previously passed out drunk in the area. At sunrise we were united with the legendary Frog people greeting Stella for the last time.

Later came Halloween celebrations in San Francisco's Castro district, where the Womb of a giant crowd invigorated a fiery pagan ceremony. In January 1996, the Womb lead a giant Masquerade throughout the streets of SF, going from bars to parties, playing to an either thrilled or astonished crowd, jumping on barstools, gathering others like a snowball.

Lundi Gras 1996 saw WW's definitive event where, with a single bass drum, the womb instigated a great celebration on Frenchman street outside the Faubourg center. Aided by Coprolingus and Primitive Echo, it was a chaos circle of multiple hundreds with many drums, fire and metal membraphonic forms.

That spring saw surreal puppet shows in SF, and then a three month tour with the summer's Nomadic Festival, going from Virginia to New Hampshire, Missouri Rainbow Gathering to the West Coast, culminating and ending at the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. After another fantastic Halloween in SF, and a giant 300 person parade in New Orleans, parades with Coprolingus and Jhyhad, this last Mardi Gras has focused the vision of WW, giving us the momentum and motivation necessary to go to the next phase of the womb.
